The Spain-Brazil of the Rugby Global Series, canceled due to “extreme heat”
The match between Spain and Brazilcorresponding to the last day of WXV Global Serieswhich was to be held in Hong Kong, has been definitively canceled due to “extreme heat” which has delayed the celebration of other meetings scheduled for this Saturday.
As reported by the Royal Spanish Rugby Federation (RFER), World Rugby (the international federation) has made this decision “after the application of the medical guidelines on thermal stress (Heat Guidelines) in the first of the meetings (P.Bajos – Fiji), which was scheduled for 12:00 (06:00 in Spain)”.
“The organization has made the decision to postpone the first two matches, the European and Oceanic Championships and the Hong Kong China-Samoa, of the day after monitoring the Heat Stress Index.”
“The teams from the Netherlands and Fiji came to jump onto the field and line up to listen to the national anthems; however, The match’s official doctor ruled the postponement when it was found that the heat index values exceeded the permitted safety thresholds. for the health of athletes”, according to the RFER.
After the rearrangement of the calendar, the first two matches of the day were rescheduled for 5:00 p.m. (11:00 a.m. CET) and 8:15 p.m. (2:15 p.m.) for the local team.
“This accumulation of delays made the Spain vs. dispute unviable. Brazil at a later timedue to the strict local regulations on noise pollution that govern the sports venue after a certain time of night,” the Federation explained.
“The Royal Spanish Rugby Federation has already entered into direct talks with World Rugby. “Both entities are working together to assess in detail the sporting, logistical and preparation damages caused by this cancellation, as well as to explore possible scenarios and compensation for the national team,” reports the RFER.
He adds that the suspension represents the “unwanted loss of key minutes of top-level competition in a year of vital importance for the development of the High Performance project, and qualification for the next World Cup. Therefore, the objective of the RFER is to agree on solutions that make it possible to compensate for the non-contest of this match.”
According to the tournament regulations for matches canceled due to force majeure or inclement weather, each team adds 2 points in the general tournament classification and, because the match has not been played, there will be no type of variation in the World Rugby classification for either team.
The team will arrive in Spain on Sunday morning to head to Seville, where they will finalize their preparation for the match against South Africa, which will be played on Sunday, October 4 in La Cartuja.
