Tara Moore’s million-dollar lawsuit against the WTA over her doping ban dismissed

The lawsuit worth 20 million dollars (17.5 million euros) that the tennis player Tara Moorebanned for four years for doping, put against the WTA, has been dismissed by a judge in New York.

Moore, who became the best British in the doubles discipline, tested double positive for steroids in 2022 and alleged that it was due to the consumption of contaminated meat in Colombia. Although he received a temporary suspension and was out of competition for 19 months, his sanction was revoked by an independent court, the ITIA, the body that ensures integrity in tennis, took the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, which confirmed the four-year sanction.

This led to Moore taking the incident to arbitration with the WTA first and, after this route failed, he sued the tennis association in the United States.

Moore’s defense was based on the fact that the WTA did not provide sufficient information to players about the risks of eating meat in certain countries.

However, Judge Andrew Carter determined that there was no legal basis for Moore’s claim and that the arbitration process had been fair.

The suspension of Moore, now 34, will end in December 2027.
