Míchel explains the unexpected substitution of Ter Stegen in Ajax’s little hand

Míchel’s Ajax recovered the Eredivisie match they had pending and did so by beating Willem II (5-1). This result places them in fourth position with 13 points, three behind PSV and AZ, who have 16 points.

The duel was easy for the Spanish coach’s team once they were able to open the scoring, something that happened on the stroke of half-time. Klaassen made it 1-0 (41′) and shortly after came Brandt’s 2-0 (45′). After the break, Tsygankov, formerly of Girona, scored the winning goal (69′), and Gloukh (74′) and Dolberg (87′) joined the party. The goal of honor was the work of Ciranni (76′).

The substitution of Ter Stegen

One of the big surprises of the game was that Ter Stegen was not in the goal. Paes played. The German, who aims to be on the list that Klopp will give tomorrow, was reserved, Míchel explained.

“Marc ter Stegen has been injured for a long time, and an international break is approaching. That’s why we feel that now is a good time for Maarten Paes to play, allowing Marc to recover properly for Saturday and the subsequent international break. If Ter Stegen joins his national team, which seems likely, we will have time afterwards to continue working on his recovery.”
