Miguel Méndez: “We will change these sad faces for the joy of ending well”
Miguel MendezSpanish coach, said this Saturday, after the 66-76 defeat against USA in the second semi-final of the World Cup in Berlin, that his team deserves to change the “sad faces for the joy of finishing the championship well” with a bronze medal against Germany.
Méndez stressed that they will prepare for Sunday’s game (16:30 CET) “in the best way” and that they will try to play their “best basketball again.”
Spain surpassed the hosts by 30 points in the debut, but Canarian point guard Maite Cazorla stressed that “The game is going to be totally different from that first meeting.”
In the semifinal, ‘La Familia’ dominated for three quarters against the powerful ‘Team USA’, but the lack of success in the last minutes condemned them.
“I am happy to have fulfilled what we had promised: to have competed in the match. If you had made an easy basket, we would have stayed closer in those last three minutes. We have forced them to put baskets”said Méndez, while the Canarian player pointed out that the US took advantage of the Spanish mistakes.
“These players have come to win“, concluded Méndez, who this Sunday can finish the championship with a meritorious bronze medal hanging around his neck.
