“Enric Mas can return Spanish cycling to the place it deserves”
The former professional cyclist Luis León Sánchez (42 years) has been one of the outstanding participants of the 24th edition of the 4 Stage MTB Race Lanzarote by Club La Santadisputed these days on the Canary Island. The Murcian has changed his road bike for a mountain bike for a few days and has once again demonstrated his competitive gene, with a stage victory and finishing second in the general classification, only behind the Danes Kristian Østergaard, absolute winner of the men’s category. In the women’s event, the victory went to the Dutchwoman Tessa Kortekaas.
Enric is in the best moment of his career, as he has explained, and now both he and Movistar can return Spanish cycling to the place it deserves.
‘Luisle’ He has enjoyed the island of Lanzarote and its landscapes for four days, although he also recognizes that he has had to suffer: “It is not the same to do it in January, like last year, than now, at the end of summer. The terrain is too loose, it has been much more technical than last year and more difficult for those of us who come from the road,” commented the Murcian after certifying his second place overall.
From Lanzarote, Luisle has closely followed the development of La Vuelta and the leadership of Enric Mas. He considers that “due to the unfortunate fall of Pogacar, Spanish cycling has an opportunity and we must take advantage of it” and assures that “Enric is in the best moment of his career, as he has explained, and now both he and Movistar can return Spanish cycling to the place it deserves. We have had some difficult years. Very good runners have come out like Pogacar, Vingegaard or Evenepoel and here not only could we not reach those levels, but we were also putting a lot of pressure on the young people. Now we have to enjoy it and let’s hope that Enric can finish the job.”

In 2019 he finished 9th in the general classification of La Vuelta and in 2014 he was the best in the mountain classification.
