Carlos Sainz: “We will have to see if Madring is an F1 ‘car wrecker’ or not. It is very difficult”
“It has been one of those thirteenth positions that will not come out and will not shine, but for my part and for the team the truth is that we all had a good race, with a good pit stop, good strategy and good execution”. This is how Carlos Sainz summarized what happened this Sunday at the F1 Italian GP, in Monza, after finishing 13th, maximizing the result of his car that cannot aspire to points.
“It was a little strange at the beginning, but when the race has stabilized it has become something more normal… But in the first 5 or 10 laps it has been curious,” he added about an event in which at the beginning there were many overtaking with this new regulation, due to the ‘yo-yo’ game caused by the difference in energy between the attacking car and the defending one.
The next race, in Madrid
Now, Carlos Sainz already think about Madrid. His Williams He is still behind other rivals in the middle zone, but the Spaniard faces his first date at home with enthusiasm.
“I’m looking forward to Friday, to getting into the car because I think that first I’m going to have a lot of promotional events, a lot of marketing, attending to sponsors and the media, which you already know is the most difficult part of the driver. But even in that, I’m going to try to enjoy it to the fullest because it’s the part that I have to do at home and I have to make an extra effort for my country and my city,” he argued.
I’m going to try to enjoy it as much as possible because it’s my part at home and I have to make an extra effort for my country and my city.
The Spaniard also referred to the complexity that the drivers will have on a track where in the recent Formula 3 tests there were up to 19 red flags. For this reason, his boss, James Vowles, called him a “Car killer.”
“I think the ‘car killer’ thing is for the F3 at the moment. We will have to see if it is an F1 ‘car killer’ or not. What is clear is that it is a very complicated circuit, very spectacular. We have all said it after doing it in the simulator, that we were surprised by how complicated it is and how difficult it will be,” said Sainz.
“Therefore, I believe that at least in that part it will be a circuit with character, with difficulty, not just another circuit that is added to the calendar just because. Then, if it is too much or if a curve or a curb or whatever has to be changed, there will be time over the years to improve,” he concluded.
