CaixaBank delivers the official World Cup jersey to the Women’s Basketball Team
CaixaBanksponsoring partner of the FEBhas organized the last official event of the Spanish women’s basketball team on Spanish lands before heading to the 2026 World Cup in Germany. Gonzalo Gortázar, CEO of CaixaBankwanted to personally accompany the coaching staff and 11 of the 12 players called up, as well as the President of the FEB –Elisa Aguilar– to say goodbye to them before the World Cup and give them the official shirt with which they will compete in a new World Cup, to which they return after eight years.
The meeting, held in Terminal 4 of the Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport, took place in a room set up for the occasion where Gortázar was able to present the shirt with which they will play the official matches. This shirt already incorporates the official patch of the International Basketball Federation for the National Teams participating in the Women’s Basketball World Championship in Germany 2026.
During the meeting, Gonzalo GortázarCEO of CaixaBank, wished the team luck and conveyed the entity’s support in the face of one of the great sporting challenges of the season. “This selection represents ambition, talent, teamwork and the ability to once again excite an entire country. For CaixaBank It is an honor to accompany you in this World Cup. We wish you the greatest success and, above all, that you enjoy a path that is already an example for many girls and young women,” said Gortázar.
Present at the event was Elisa Aguilar, president of the Spanish Basketball Federation (FEB), who wanted to highlight that “this jersey that the team receives today has a special value, and also a very important weight, because it is with which the National Team assumes the representation of Spain in this World Cup. Thanks to CaixaBank and Gonzalo Gortázar for their support over all these years of our women’s basketball, and for starring in such a symbolic act, the moment in which these players become the “They fly the flag of our country in a World Cup to which we return, full of dreams, eight years later.”
‘We dream again’, ‘We believe again’
The team faces the event under the motto ‘We dream again’, with which the FEB wanted to involve the fans in the team’s return to a World Cup eight years later. Berlin 2026 will be Spain’s eighth World Cup participation. In the previous seven, the team won three medals: bronze in the Czech Republic 2010, silver in Türkiye 2014 and bronze in Tenerife 2018.
The championship will also mark the World Cup debut of a new generation: except for Alba Torrens, none of the players in the final squad had played in this competition before. It will also be Miguel Méndez’s first World Cup as national coach. Spain arrives in Berlin as current European runners-up after the silver medal obtained at the Athens 2025 European Championship.
For this new cycle, CaixaBank has also launched its own slogan ‘We believe again’, which highlights the essential element behind an entire championship of this magnitude: emotion.
CaixaBank, reference sponsor of Spanish basketball
CaixaBank is a sponsoring partner of the Spanish Basketball Federation (FEB) and official sponsor of the Spanish national team, both women’s and men’s, in all its categories, ranging from senior to under-16, and main sponsor of the Spanish Sports Federation for People with Physical Disabilities, with the aim of promoting wheelchair basketball.
At the same time, the financial entity is a sponsor of multiple basketball academies in Spain, both professional and amateur. Through links with the teams, CaixaBank promotes the practice and promotion of basketball for training teams and basketball schools throughout the territory of influence. Through these agreements, CaixaBank encourages participation in official competitions for these teams, as well as the organization of campuses, granting scholarships to young athletes and training coaches.
The financial entity has been supporting national basketball since 2013 and its involvement and activation of multiple initiatives around this sport have helped to make visible and expand the impact of the greatest successes achieved internationally.
In its implementation of the local sponsorship strategy, CaixaBank has collaborated with the main basketball events that have been held in the last decade in Spain, both professional and amateur, transferring the values of the sport to all corners of the country. Proof of this is the commitment as official sponsor of the 2014 World Cup held in Spain, the collaboration with the Women’s Basketball World Cup held in Tenerife in 2018, and the women’s Eurobasket that was played in Valencia in 2021.
Likewise, it is worth highlighting the historic commitment to the CaixaBank 3×3 Circuit, the largest 3×3 street basketball circuit that has been held since 2012, one of the benchmark competitions in grassroots sports that has brought together 64,000 players of all ages and has received more than 475,000 visitors after making 143 stops in more than 50 Spanish cities throughout its history.
CaixaBank also collaborates with the FEB in order to promote a sports volunteering program that transcends the competition itself: the FEB CaixaBank volunteer program. Created on the occasion of the Men’s World Cup held in Spain in 2014, today, the program has managed to weave a solid community of nearly 25,000 volunteers, who support all official basketball events organized by the FEB.
