Thomas Silva extends his contract with the XDS Astana Team until 2029

The Uruguayan cyclist Thomas Silva extended his contract with the XDS Astana Team until the end of the 2029 seasonthe team reported this Monday.

The 24-year-old runner, who has just been proclaimed winner of the general classification in the Arctic Race in Norway, assured that there is no “better environment” to continue his sporting career and that there are still “many objectives” to achieve.

“The most important thing is that the team and I share the same vision of cycling and how my career should develop. The results I have achieved this season are clear proof of this,” declared Silva, who already has eight victories with XDS Astana.

From their team they point out the importance of continuing with the established strategy. “This new agreement is designed to reinforce Thomas’ position as one of the team’s leaders. and allow us to continue working together in the right direction and at the right pace,” said Alexandr Vinokurov, CEO of the XDS Astana Team.

Among his most notable triumphs, in addition to the one mentioned in Norwegian lands, is a stage victory in the Giro d’Italia in 2026, in which he also wore the ‘pink jersey’ for several days, two triumphs and victory in the general classification of the Tour of Hainan, as well as in the Ordizia Classic and the Castilla y León Classic.

“He had an excellent Giro d’Italia and, subsequently, we decided to focus on specific objectives for the rest of the season, without accelerating his development and leaving the other Grand Tours for the future,” declared Vinokurov in statements released by the team.
