Loses part of his thumb in a fall in the Tour de France

The tenth stage of Tour de France was marked by the dangerous descent of the Puy Mary, before the final stretch towards the finish line of Le Lioran. The state of the asphalt, with numerous white spots, put cyclists at serious risk on a dizzying descent. Chris Harper was the worst off.

The Australian fell to the ground and, although he was able to complete the stage, a serious hand injury forced him to undergo surgery, saying goodbye to the Tour. The Pinarello-Q36.5 rider lost part of his left thumb in the accident. In a post on her social media, Harper reported the mishap.

“Leaving a race is always painful, but even more so if it is the biggest of all. Thanks to the team for the support and I hope to recover soon to be able to return in the second part of the season,” explained the cyclist, who allowed himself to joke about what happened: “Being positive, I think I am now 10 grams lighter.”

His teammate and leader Tom Pidcock also suffered an accident on the same corner. At the end of the stage, the Briton was very critical of the state of the road: “I didn’t expect it to be like this. I don’t know what they’re doing with the roads here, they’ve put all that white crap on top. But it was very slippery, especially on the descents,” he told Eurosport.
