Honda has no immediate plans for Alonso: “The situation is not going to change drastically overnight. We continue to think long term”

Fernando Alonso You will have to arm yourself with patience if you want to fight for important things again. Aston Martin They had high hopes for this change of era in Formula 1 but, unfortunately for their interests, the worst possible scenario came true and they are the red lantern of the current Grand Circus grid.

Without a doubt, one of the headaches of the Silverstone project is the honda engine. The Japanese power unit is really bad compared to the rest and both performance and reliability leave a lot to be desired. The message from both Alonso and the British team is clear: the change will be radical in the second half of the year. It is after the summer where we should expect a jump in quality with which to think about at least stopping fighting with cadillac so as not to be the last.

However, Honda is much more cautious and does not believe that the performance of its engine will change completely this season. Something that certainly does not benefit Alonso’s hopes.

“Honda management takes the current situation very seriously and is not satisfied with the results obtained so far. There is a general consensus on the need to improve and, at the same timethere is also a clear understanding that the project must be evaluated in the medium and long term, not just this year“he explained Koji Watanabepresident of Honda Racing, in statements collected on the official F1 website.

The situation is not going to change drastically overnight.so our approach does not change and we will continue working with a long-term perspective,” continued the Japanese. “Management continues to provide firm support and show high expectations, focusing on the process of resolving the challenge we face.”

Comparison with 2015

Watanabe also issued another video message through Honda’s social networks where he thanked the fans who still trust the project for the full support. “The start of 2026 has been challenging, we are not where we want to be, butIt is in Honda’s DNA to continue working to get out of this type of situation.s”.

What’s more, the president of HRC compared the current situation with what the Japanese already experienced when they began their second career with McLaren in 2015, precisely with Alonso also as leader of the project. “In 2015, we also faced a difficult start, but we became stronger”.
