The promising Ugochukwu crashes in his test with an Alpine F1 in Monza
The American driver Ugo Ugochukwu suffered an accident when he was testing the Alpine A524 at the Monza circuit, according to the Argentine web portal Solo Motores. It was the first time that the 19-year-old, who fortunately did not suffer physical damage, had tested a Formula 1 car.
Ugochukwu, who drives for the Spanish Campos Racing team, currently leads the FIA Formula 3 category, the bronze step on the road to the long-awaited Formula 1.
It should be noted that the pilot of Nigerian and Italian origin is not part of any academy today. However, this test with Alpine suggests that Ugochukwu has some type of association with the French team, beyond his participation in the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine in 2024.
In fact, Motorsport.com indicates that “a possible contact was thought of” between the New Yorker and the Alpine Academy. Estonian Paul Aron, reserve driver for the Enstone team since last year, also participated in the same day of testing in Italy.
Previously, Ugochukwu has been part of the Sauber Karting Team (then linked to the Alfa Romeo F1 team) from 2020 to 2021, and the McLaren Junior Team from 2021 to 2025. This test with the Alpine A524, driven by Esteban Ocon, Pierre Gasly and Jack Doohan in 2024, marks the American driver’s third connection to a Formula 1 team.
