Former Greek international Marios Oikonomou dies at 33

The former Greek international Marios Oikonomou died this Monday at 33 years after suffering a serious traffic accident on May 23 while riding a scooter and colliding with a car that was trying to turn on a central street in Ioannina (Greece).

The former player, among other teams, of Bolognahe Cagliarihe barihe SPALthe Sampdoriahe AEK Athens or the Copenhagenhad been in intensive care since last week after serious head injuries and undergoing neurosurgical intervention.

Oikonomouwho in 2022 was champion of the Danish league and was capped by Greece on six occasions, hung up his boots in 2024 in his country, playing for the Panetolikosbefore returning to live in Ioannina, his hometown.
