Bozic, after not winning the MVP: “Sometimes there are things you can’t fight against”
Luka Bozic, Croatian power forward for Covirán Granada, showed his frustration this Monday after not winning the Best Player of the Season Award (MVP) of the Endesa League, despite receiving the greatest popular support in the voting.
Bozic, who could not prevent the relegation of his team, bottom of the competition, finished the season with averages per game of 16.6 points, 6.6 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 24.3 efficiency.
The Croatian was chosen in the acb’s Best Five along with the MVP winner, his compatriot Mario Hezonja (Real Madrid); the Dominican Jean Montero (Valencia Basket); the American with a Montenegrin passport David DeJulius (UCAM Murcia); and the Frenchman Timothé Luwawu-Cabarrot (Baskonia).
Although he also received the majority of votes from the public, he did not get enough support from players, coaches and the press, which is why he finished fifth in the race for the award with 99 points, far from the 165 that Hezonja got.
“I am very disappointed with the decision regarding the acb MVP award. The fans chose me as MVP and I want to heartily thank everyone who took the time to vote for me. I am deeply grateful,” Bozic wrote on his account on the social network Instagram.
“I gave everything on the court and didn’t hold anything back, but sometimes there are things you can’t fight, like politics. I think I need to take some time away from basketball to clear my mind. In the end, God has a plan and works in mysterious ways,” he added.
Bozic, in his first season at the Andalusian club, closed his participation this season in the Endesa League with an average rating of 24.3 credits, the best figure for a player in the top category of Spanish basketball in the last 18 years.
