Dodgers placed Mookie Betts on the disabled list with an oblique strain that will keep him out for up to six weeks

Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Mookie Betts was placed on the disabled list due to a right oblique strain, manager said Dave Roberts on Sunday.

The injury is expected to keep him sidelined for four to six weeks, although Roberts was skeptical about his possible return, according to the Orange County Register.

Betts left the Dodgers’ 10-5 victory over the Washington Nationals on Saturday after the top of the first inning due to what the team described as lower back pain. An MRI confirmed that the injury was actually to Betts’ oblique.

Roberts told reporters that he believes Betts was injured on a checked swing during his at-bat during the first inning on Saturday.

Betts was starting at shortstop and batting third when he walked in the first inning and scored on Freddie Freeman’s two-run double. He was replaced on the field by Miguel Rojas before the bottom of the inning.

Rojas also starts at shortstop on Sunday.

Betts, 33, is coming off a 2025 season in which he played 150 games. He had an inconsistent performance in the postseason, but started the 6-6-3 double play that gave Los Angeles victory in Game 7 of the World Series.

Betts is hitting .179 with two home runs and seven RBIs this season.

The Dodgers promoted infielder Hyeseong Kim from the Minor Leagues to replace Betts on the Major League roster.
