Another triumph for Ignacio Buse against a former Top 10 to continue in Marrakech
Ignacio Buse does not stop growing at the ATP level. The Peruvian now defeated Matteo Berrettini to advance to the second round in Marrakech. It was a tight 7-6 (5), 6-7(2) and 6-4, to beat the Italian and advance in Morocco after more than three hours of play.
The European could not take revenge. Buse knew how to beat Matteo Berrettini in the quarterfinals of Rio this year to reach his first ATP 500 semifinal.
In this way, the Peruvian, seventh seeded in the tournament, gave an account of who he knew how to be No. 6 in the ATP world.
Ignacio Buse, just turned 22, is in the best moment of his professional career at the end of March 2026. After a highly impactful South American tour, the Peruvian has managed to fully enter the main circuit and in what way.
It should be remembered that Buse is ranked No. 59 in the ATP ranking, his best historical position. With this, he consolidates himself as the fourth best Peruvian tennis player in history (only behind Jaime Yzaga, Pablo Arraya and Luis Horna) and has surpassed the personal record of Juan Pablo Varillas (who reached 60th place).
His results from this first quarter have already secured him a place in the main draws at Roland Garros and Wimbledon for this season.
In the next round at the African ATP 250 he will see the Argentine Camilo Ugo Carabelli, who worked to beat Timofey Skatov.
