Franco Colapinto: “There are many areas to understand”
The Argentine analyzed his work in the Japanese GP, where he finished 16th.
“The safety cars this year…” said Franco Colapinto to begin analyzing his time at the Japanese GP. The Argentine driver had already suffered with an inopportune safety car in China and it happened again in Suzuka, despite the fact that his pace was not as competitive as in Shanghai. “I made a good start, then I got stuck behind Lawson, I was skidding and I started to take care of the tires. Then I wanted to do the undercut and the safety car came out and then he finished ninth. So seeing how he finished and with my pace, which was better, it’s a shame because I was fighting for the points. It was another race that compromised us with the safety car,” he added.
Beyond the moment of Oliver Bearman’s accident that worked against his strategy, the Argentine from Alpine acknowledged that he did not have a complicated weekend and that the distance with his teammate Pierre Gasly was great. “Luckily there is a break now to work and improve on what we lack and many areas to understand. There is a big difference with Pierre in some moments of the weekend,” he assured.
After the safety car, Colapinto was stuck in 16th place, behind Carlos Sainz. For the third time in three races, the Argentine met the Spaniard on the track. “I’m tired of seeing the Williams, and even with my 2024 engineer, it makes me angry and I want to beat them. I love the Williams people, they worked well because they have a car that they are missing, but they did a great job.”
