72-66: La Penya closes the preseason with victory
He ASISA Joventut concluded its preseason phase with a victory by beating Ratiopharm Ulm by 72 to 66. The match, played on September 6 in Sant Julia of Vilatorta, served as the last test before the start of the group stage of the Catalan League.
The green-black team started the game controlling the pace, with Adrian Towers standing out in attack and contributing seven points to establish an initial lead of 13-8. However, the external success of Ulm reverted the score to 15-16, forcing a timeout. At the end of the first quarter, the score was 18 to 21 in favor of the German team. In the second quarter, after more than three minutes without scoring, the Joventut reacted with triples Laprovittola, Kings and Cheathammanaging to tie at 29 and complete a comeback that left the score at halftime at 36 to 32.
After the restart, a triple Laprovittola extended the maximum advantage to 39-32, although the Ulm responded quickly to get within 39-38. A strategic timeout led to an 8-0 run for ASISA Joventutwith Sulejmanovic placing 47-38. The Germans called a timeout to reorganize. The third quarter ended with the Penya maintaining the lead, 52 to 46, thanks to a triple from Hakanson.
The defensive level of the group Badalona intensified during the final quarter, allowing the lead to progressively increase. A triple of Ricky established the score 59-47, consolidating local superiority. Subsequently, five consecutive points from Reyes sealed the match, taking the score to 70-55 before the final whistle that confirmed the final 72-66.
With the preseason over, ASISA Joventut is preparing to face the group stage of the Catalan League. The first challenge will take place on Wednesday, September 9 at 6:30 p.m. against the iLERNA Lleida in Tarragona. The second commitment will be on September 11, also at 6:30 p.m., in front of the FIATC Girona.
