46-82: Spain defeats France and wins gold in the Eurobasket in Stockholm

Spain is once again European champion. Isaac Fernández’s Spanish team won the gold medal for the second consecutive year, and did so by defeating France in the final by 36 points (46-82), this being the second largest advantage in a women’s under-18 Eurobasket final in history (+43 for the Soviet Union in 1977 against Poland).

The match in Stockholm started in the same dynamic as how Spain left it in the rest of the tournament: dominating in defense and very solvent in attack, leaving the French team without the ability to react from very early on with a run of 7-24 in the first period of the final. At half-time, the Spanish left the final practically tied and seen for judgment (24-49).

The second half had no more history and Isaac Fernández’s men maintained the tone and control until the sound of the final horn, thus achieving their seventh European under-18 women’s title in their entire history (1998, 2006, 2009, 2013, 2015, 2025 and 2026), the second in a row.

Somto Okafor once again led the Spanish team, posting another great performance with 17 points and 6 rebounds, which earned him the MVP of the tournament, with total averages of 15.3 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.5 assists. She was well supported in the final by Ada Toribio, with 10 points and 5 assists, María Carbo, with 12 points, and Marta Llompart, with 11 points.
