2-1: Griezmann loses the US Open Cup

He Columbus Crew won 2-1 over Orlando City of the former colchonero Antoine Griezmann and eliminated him in the semifinals of the US Open Cupthe United States Cup. The Crew sealed their ticket to the final thanks to the goals of the Venezuelan Josef Martínez and the Spanish Brais Méndez, after the momentary equalizer of the Argentine Martín Ojeda.

Martínez broke the tie after nine minutes by elegantly controlling a cross from the left wing and finishing with his left foot to strike down the goalkeeper. Ojeda equalized for Orlando on the brink of half-time with a great left-footed goal from the edge of the area, but after the restart the Crew scored the final 2-1 in the 52nd minute thanks to Méndez, a former Real Sociedad player, after an assist from Uruguayan Santiago Rodríguez.

Griezmann started for Orlando and was replaced in the 54th minute by Daryl Dike. The Frenchman has eight goals in ten MLS games. The Crew will play the final against the winner of the series between Saint Louis and the Colorado Rapids.
