Weight loss at West Ham

The co-president of West Ham United, David Sullivan, who is also one of its main shareholders, presented his resignation this Saturday after 16 years in office, to dedicate himself to defending himself against a series of accusations of “inappropriate conduct” that he categorically denies.

The resignation occurs at a time of sporting crisis in the club, which has been relegated after a disastrous season in which it finished in 18th place, meaning that in the next championship it will no longer be measured in the ‘Premier’.

However, the club, which confirmed Sullivan’s resignation, clarified that this decision has nothing to do with sporting reasons.

“I refuse to allow personal matters that concern me to become an unnecessary distraction or source of instability (for the club),” Sullivan said in a statement, after reiterating on several occasions that the accusations against him are unfounded.

Sullivan made a fortune in the pornography and sex shop industry, but the British media has been cautious in identifying the crimes he allegedly committed, as he has threatened to prosecute anyone who publishes them for defamation. On Monday, a BBC program is scheduled to broadcast a program about the accusations that have led to the millionaire’s resignation.

Sullivan’s figure suffered great internal opposition after he decided in 2016 to move the club from its historic Upton Park stadium to the London Olympic Stadium against a 99-year lease to an organization dependent on the municipality of London.

Sullivan currently holds 38.5% of the London club’s shares, while Czech businessman Daniel Kretinsky has owned 27% since 2021, and the latter is believed to have plans to increase his share of the shareholding.
