Vozinha cherishes a title at 40 years old: “I came to play for the Libertadores”
Josimar José Évora Dias ‘Vozinha’, goalkeeper Cape Verde who became famous in the 2026 World Cup, expressed this Thursday his desire to play in the next Copa Libertadores, in the prelude to a decisive match in which Colo Colo could win its 35th title in the Chilean league, this Sunday, against Ñublense.
““I came with the intention of playing the Libertadores, but my focus is on the week, which is very important for Colo Colo.”said the African goalkeeper at a press conference.
His future, on the eaves
With attention focused on the possibility of ‘championship’ early at the close of the tournament, the future of the 40-year-old goalkeeper also finds prominence, although he himself stated that “It will be decided later, I’m not thinking that.”
“We have to think about the next game. There is the opportunity to be champions and we are going to fight for that. “We know that in football anything can happen, but we are focused and we can achieve our goal in that match,” he added.
The permanence of ‘Vozinha’ in the Cacique for the 2027 season, however, has a contractual component.
The keys to the contract
The player signed a six-month contract, which will expire next December and which includes an automatic extension clause if he plays at least 50% of the minutes played by the team in the period established in the agreement.
Currently the goalkeeper registers 450 minutes on the field and the calculation contemplates that Colo Colo has 540 minutes of play left considering the four league games plus the two in the Chile Cup semifinal, of which he would have to start in three and play at least 45 more minutes.
Achieving it does not seem as complicated now as it did a few months ago, because upon his arrival the coach of the albos, the Argentine Fernando Ortiz, It did not offer him continuity under the goal that now seems more established.
“My adaptation has gone well. The beginning is always difficult, but now I’m much better,” the goalkeeper acknowledged.
First match ball
Everything seems to indicate that ‘Vozinha’ will face the final stretch of the championship as a starter for the white team, which is the leader of the league with 58 points and ten ahead of its runner-up, Universidad de Chile.
The first opportunity to be crowned will be on this date the 27th, in the visit that the Cacique will make to the Ñuble team, which is fighting its options to climb to qualifying positions for the Copa Sudamericana.
“We don’t think about whether we are champions at home or away. We have that goal, but we know that we have to work day by day with the focus of improving. “We are going to do everything so that the game goes well,” secured the goal.
The Cape Verdean added that “The Chilean championship is very difficult. All opponents play good football, very divided.”
For Vozinha, winning the league with Colo Colo would represent his first absolute title outside his country. after having won a championship with Mindelense and a Cyprus Cup with AEL Limassol.
