Uruguayan Thomas Silva became champion in the Tour of Hainan
The Uruguayan Thomas Silva (XDS-Astana), winner of two stages, achieved victory this Sunday in the Tour of Hainan (China), of the UCI ProSeries category, after the dispute on the fifth and final day between Baoting and Sanya of 154.6 kilometers, which was won by the Danish Alexander Salby (Li Ning Star) in a massive arrival.
The last stage, with four scoring climbs in the first half of the route and an intermediate scoring sprint, left the suspense of the final victory until the last moment, although XDS Astana knew how to control the race so that the victory went to Silva, the main protagonist of the test after his victories on the second and fourth days.
The 24-year-old cyclist from Maldonado was accompanied on the podium by the Spanish Xabier Berasategi (Euskaltel-Euskadi), ten seconds overall, and the Italian Thomas Pesenti (Polti-Visit Malta), also with the same time.
In the team category, the winner was Polti-Visit Malta, ahead of the Spanish Burgos Burpellet BH and Euskaltel Euskadi, and the Kazakh Igor Chzhan took the mountain overall.
