One of the featured meetings will be a classic one that they will hold Alumni and Belgrano, while Newman and SIC will meet again after last year’s final.
Furthermore, they will face Hindú vs CUBA, La Plata vs CASI, Regatas vs Los Tilos, Los Matreros vs Atlético del Rosario and Champagnat vs Buenos Aires.
The Matreros vs. Atlético del Rosario
HOW THEY GET THERE: Both teams have just lost, although in different ways. Los Matreros with a great performance, playing as equals to SIC and coming very close to victory. The final score of 25 to 20 for the Zanjeros was consummated in the defining stages of the match. Los Matreros had the initiative until the final part, but this time Juan Morales, the red and white scorer, was not precise in front of the sticks, and missed 13 feasible points.
The SIC does not usually forgive when it has its chances and so they turned it around with a try from Panzarini and the penalty from Sascaro at the close of the match to win the tight and agonizing victory.
Atlético del Rosario, for its part, received Regatas de Bella Vista on its field, could not cope with the power of the Auriazul pack and lost 20 to 12. Four laboratory tries, three supported by Landívar and the remaining one by Torres Agüero marked the visitor’s victory, the only one with a bonus of the date. Manuel Nogues scored Plaza’s 12 points and continues as the Top 14 scorer.
WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?: Last year both were cheerleaders for promotion, finally with access to the Top 14 for this season. Los Matreros won in the debut and was a tough rival to SIC, one of the candidates. Atlético won in La Plata, lost at home, and now travels to La Base with one point less than the rojiblanco
THE BACKGROUND: The victory of Los Matreros in Plaza Jewell last year, by 34 to 20, was the first in the history of the Morón club over one of the founding teams of rugby in Argentina.
As in the last duels played between the 2021 and 2025 seasons they were for the Primera “A” tournament, the Group’s last antecedents were in the 2008 season, with a 13-point tie in Moreno, in the old Villa Malaver property that Los Matreros used from 1980. At the La Base headquarters, Los Matreros never surpassed the Rosario team.
Bella Vista vs Los Tilos Regattas
HOW THEY GET THERE: One of the most outstanding matches of the date will be played in Bella Vista, where Regatas and Los Tilos will seek to prolong the good results they achieved in Rosario and in the Barrio Obrero.
The two recovered after losing on the first date. Regatas won in Rosario and achieved the five points thanks to the four tries it supported and its in-goal at zero, with the score 20 to 12. For its part, those from Bella Vista were effective in their formations and closed their defense very well, without conceding any tries.
Los Tilos celebrated a victory in Barrio Obrero that came in the final minutes. They won the classic for their best sprint in the decisive part, and beat La Plata by 17 to 13. After being down on the scoreboard for almost the entire afternoon. With Martínez’s try and Santamarina’s conversion, the green team won and recovered from the rout in their debut against Hindú Club in Don Torcuato.
WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?: Regatas and Los Tilos grew a lot last season, they were revelations of the Top 12, and were very close to the classification positions. With very predominant packs and the intention to be protagonists, they measure themselves in Bella Vista to confirm all the good things they have been doing.
THE BACKGROUND: Last year the two games were for Regatas, which won in Barrio Obrero by a tight 39 to 37 and in Bella Vista, by 20 to 13. Los Tilos has not won as a visitor in the Western Zone since the 2023 season, when in the First “A” they won by 23 to 19.
La Plata RC vs. ALMOST
HOW THEY GET THERE: It was not a good weekend that both La Plata and CASI had, at the close of their matches. In the final stages both lost victories, which seemed to be consummated after two very balanced duels. La Plata won the classic in Barrio Obrero, winning by 13 to 9, but three minutes from closing they lost it, by 17 to 13.
EL CASI gave up its local status due to having its court suspended. He played the modern classic in Don Torcuato, against Hindú Club. In a very even match, La Academia won with four penalties from Akemeier, 12 to 8. But, in the 38th minute, Ramón Fernández Miranda infiltrated the academic defense and unleashed the delirium of his fans by making it 15 to 12 with which the match was closed.
WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?: The Canaries lost the two matches in which they took the defensive bonus. Last Saturday, in a game that could have gone to anyone, they could not maintain the lead in the final part.
CASI is one of the candidates by nature, as they demonstrated in the initial match in which they beat Champagnat. However, this time, the definition was on the other side, with the try on the hour mark giving Hindú the victory.
THE BACKGROUND: The different current affairs of both clubs were very present last year, when the Academy beat Gonnet, 44 to 15, and La Catedral, 51 to 11. La Plata has not beaten CASI in San Isidro for ten years, the last victory was in the 2015 season, 34 to 12.
Hindu vs. CUBA
HOW THEY GET THERE: Good start to Santiago Fernández’s cycle as Head Coach of the elephant with two stimulating victories at the start and also, the lead shared with Newman and the SIC. After the defeat against Los Tilos in the debut, it was necessary to confirm it against a strong rival such as CASI. In a very close and tight match, those in light blue and yellow struck at the end, and won by 15 to 12
CUBA was not defeated in the classic against Champagnat, who was better in the final 20 minutes and beat him 29 to 25 in Villa de Mayo, with two tries converted in just four minutes. Universitario lost against Alumni and Champa at the end of each match.
WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?: In a tournament as demanding as the Top 14, in which the matches are played with great intensity, Hindú and CUBA are no exception, they played several finals in the last decade and are seeking renewal, after being left out of the definitions in the last tournaments.
THE BACKGROUND: CUBA has not beaten Hindú Club as a visitor in eight years. The last success was by 20 points in the 2018 season, 46 to 26. From there the Cubans spent six visits to Don Torcuato, where Elefante always beat Universitario, the last year it was 27 to 3.
Champagnat vs. Buenos Aires CRC
HOW THEY GET THERE: After a start with resounding defeats, Champagnat and Buenos Aires achieved redemption by winning on the second day against clubs with a lot of history. Champa won the classic on the CUBA court, with a full orchestra closing and a 29-25 victory that was greatly celebrated by his supporters.
Biei beat Alumni in a very frictional duel, with several yellow cards on both sides and a finish that was open to anyone. Tomás Bunge’s two penalties finally gave León the first victory, 20 to 15.
WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?: For two teams that began the tournament with categorical defeats, last Saturday’s victories represent a bit of fresh air and greater optimism to face what is to come. The Marists want to ratify all the good they do with the ball in their hands. For Buenos Aires, it will serve to confirm the beginning of a new process after 2025 where it was difficult to maintain balance.
THE BACKGROUND: They played very spaced out in recent times, according to each club’s passage through the promotion categories. In 2024 they met twice, in both games with victories for León, by 20 to 13 and 30 to 23. Champagnat has not defeated León at home since the 2017 season, when in First “A” he beat them by 26 to 19.
Alumni vs. Belgrano Athletic
HOW THEY GET THERE: The classic of the date returns to Tortuguitas at the beginning of the season, with two clubs that have not yet been able to assert themselves in the tournament. Alumni arrives with five points after beating CUBA on the hour and losing against Biei, almost in the same way, by a tight 20 to 15. With a minimal difference over Biei, of 15 to 14, fifteen minutes from the end,
They suffered two yellow cards towards the end that caused them to lose control of the match.
Belgrano is one of the negative surprises at this start of the Top 14. Two heavy defeats against SIC and Newman, which left him with zero points to close the standings. Last Saturday, at times, they were the team they used to be. They won 25 to 23 with a penalty from Juan Landó, but at the end, with a penalty from Gonzalo “Scooby” Gutiérrez Taboada and a converted try, they lost 33 to 25 and were left with nothing.
WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?: The classics are special matches where the antecedents do not add up. Alumni and Belgrano do not arrive in their best version, however, in each of these duels they seek to be the best team during the 80 minutes. Those from Tortuguitas and El Marrón face each other for a new victory in the history of this duel and to regain their smile after the setbacks of the last weekend.
THE BACKGROUND: The classic that originated in the Belgrano neighborhood returns to Tortuguitas after the 2025 clash, in which Marrón won with authority by 35 to 19. BAC also won in Virrey del Pino by 35 to 17, to become owner of the two classics from last season. As a local, Alumni has not celebrated a classic since 2023, when it won 33 to 17.
Newman vs. SIC
HOW THEY GET THERE: Great match between two of the three leaders of the Top 14, who, after playing the first dates of the tournament, emerge, once again, as the great candidates to be in the final stages.
Newman visited Belgrano, the same rival against whom he played very recently in the decisive stages of the last tournament and crowned him, for the first time, as the current champion. In Viceroy of
It was not easy for Pino, however, in the final minutes he gained the advantage to win it 33 to 25.
The SIC returned to victory after the great performance it had on the initial date, in which it defeated Belgrano by a large margin. However, this time it was not so easy for him. The resistance that Los Matreros offered was such that in reality the red and white team was the one who was closest to winning it. The SIC experience was very relevant to turn it around at the end, and win it by 25 to 20.
WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?: They played the 2025 final that crowned Newman for the first time as the URBA champion. Without the backpack of so many lost final instances and with one of the most complete squads in the Top 14, Bordó receives SIC with all its weapons in place to consolidate itself.
The SIC was a flatterer against BAC, but left certain doubts in the victory against Los Matreros. The clash against Newman will be against a strong rival, a champion; With everything it implies, he arrives with high morale.
THE BACKGROUND: With the definition of the Top 12 still in memory and very close, after the 15-3 for Bordó that meant a championship, the clash between the candidates returns once again to the excellent Benavídez field. There, Newman had a resounding success last year, 45 to 21. SIC, on the other hand, won as a visitor a year ago, 35 to 12.
