United Cup: Argentina hit the home team
Argentina has gotten off to a great start in the United Cup, a mixed tournament that starts the year in Perth and Sydney, Australia.
This time, they beat the host team 2-1 thanks to the victories of Nadia Podoroska and the duo formed by María Lourdes Carlé and Tomás Etcheverry.
Podoroska opened the confrontation with a victory over Olivia Gadecki, 6-2 and 6-4, but Etcheverry later failed in the men’s singles match at the Ken Rosewall Arena with Alex de Miñaur, to whom he lost by a clear 6-1 and 6-4.
In this way the clash had to be defined in the mixed double, in which Etcheverry was paired with Carlé and on the ‘Aussie’ side were Ellen Perez and Matthew Ebden and the Argentines won 6-2 and 6-4.
In other matches played this Saturday, Switzerland and Canada beat France and Croatia 2-1, respectively.
In addition to competing against Australia, Argentina shares a group with Great Britainwhich has Billy Harris, Katie Boulter, Jan Choinski, Lily Miyazaki, Charles Broom and Olivia Nicholls on its team, with Alexander Ward as captain. Of the three countries, the winner and the best runner-up from each venue will advance to the quarterfinals.
