Ubal: “I focus on what I can contribute to the team, which is energy, passion and pride”
The Barça guard Agustín Ubal has appeared before the media, together with the coach Alexander Sekulicduring the preview of tomorrow’s Euroleague match against the Hapoel Tel Aviv.
And one thing has been demonstrated: the Uruguayan He is very clear about his role in the team and he has stated that he tries to contribute “energy, passion and pride”, especially defensively, in the minutes he is on the court.
Before traveling to Bulgaria, Ubal explained how his adaptation process is going after returning this summer to the club where he trained from Kids&Us Manresa.
“When I enter the field I try to revolutionize the energy and dynamics of the team. I consider myself good at that because I have a lot of energy in my body and I try to get it out on the court. The other day against Valencia I could not participate much in the first half, while in the second I had the opportunity to step on the field and I showed that the character, the pride and the feeling of this club as if it belonged to my life,” he explained.
Ubal has played three games in the first nine days of the Euroleague with an average of 10 minutes per meeting. Despite his secondary role, he has shown signs of his character.
For example, he lifted the audience from their seats. Palau Blaugrana with a defensive action in the last victory in the Euroleague in front of Valencia Basket.
“On the team everyone has their role. And I embraced mine, which is to try to revolutionize and give energy. For me those rebounds are vital. They are actions that the team needs to change the face of the game. I celebrated it like that, maybe some say too much, but I live basketball like that,” he said.
The young man from Montevideo admits that he not only likes to score and that he enjoys other aspects of the game: “My game involves defending the best of them, grabbing the rebound, running and giving everything for the team,” he commented.
In this sense, Ubal He admitted that in attack he is playing “a lot” without the ball, a different role than the one he had in Manresa, where he enjoyed more prominence in attack.
“Here I have to wait for the shots to come to me open when I have some offensive advantage, attack on the opposite foot, run a lot and fill all the possible spaces to make the game easier for the point guards,” he analyzed.
Collectively, the Uruguayan highlighted that the Barça team, which has a chain of five victories between the Endesa League and the Euroleagueis “happy” with the work done to date and was ambitious with a view to the month of November in which he will face some of the favorites to conquer the continental competition.
“Improving by winning is easier, there is less pressure. The day-to-day life in the team is great, the work of each one and the desire to learn is very good. I think we are going to get more victories, being a more united team in the idea of the game and in defense. It is the line to follow,” he noted.
Ubal and his teammates are “aware” that in the coming days they will face “tougher rivals,” so he pointed out that they will do “the best” they have “to be at the level.”
“We have a long squad and it is important that we are all involved, even though there are calls in each game. The automatisms take time to assimilate with players who have no experience in FIBA basketball. And this takes time, longer than normal, and I think the balance so far is good,” he concluded.
