Two Argentines among the Best in the world in 2025

The International Hockey Federation announced the nominated for this year’s awards for Best Male and Female Player and Best Goalkeeper. The chosen one will come from the voting of journalists, players, judges, leaders and fans.

The nominees for the “player” award are: Xan de Waard (Netherlands), Alix Gerniers (Belgium) and Li Hong (China) in the women’s branch, and Tom Boon (Belgium), Nicolás Della Torre (Argentina)Thierry Brinkman (Netherlands), in men’s.

Nicolás della Torre made his debut in 2013 and has now played a total of 131 games in which he scored 83 goals.. At 35 years old, the multifunctional player who emerged from the Club Ciudad de Buenos Aires has, for the first time, the opportunity to be chosen in this category. Meanwhile, he continues his sporting career in Belgium at the KHC Dragons.

For the category of archers, the preselected are: Anne Veenendaal (Netherlands), Liu Ping (China) and Grace O’Hanlon (New Zealand) in ladies. And James Mazarelo (England), Jean-Paul Danneberg (Germany), and Tomás Santiago (Argentina).

The man from Córdoba, father of two children, has defended the national goal for more than a decade, alternating ownership with Juan Manuel Vivaldi until his retirement after the Tokyo Olympic Games (in 2021 due to the pandemic). Since then, he became the owner of the three Argentine suits. He has 113 games between the junior and the senior.

The Coach of the Year will be voted on by the same expert panel that decided on the list of player and goalkeeper nominees. On this panel is the legend Luciana Aymar.
