The trial for Maradona’s death continues: “He presented normal values, that is why he retired without cardiac medication”

The psychiatrist and forensic doctor Anibal Areco, expert witness summoned by the defense of Agustina Cosachov, one of the health professionals accused of the death of Diego Armando Maradona, This Thursday he defended the doctor’s actions and assured that the pharmacological treatment was adequate.

The expert was summoned by Cosachov, also a psychiatrist, to join the medical board that in 2021 evaluated the circumstances of the death of Diego Armando Maradona at the request of Justice.

Although Areco presented a report dissenting from the board’s final conclusions, which stated that the actions of the doctors in charge of Maradona’s health were “inadequate, deficient and reckless,” The expert assured that there was consensus about the medication psychiatric.

“A consensus was reached that the pharmacological indication was appropriate and that was performed within a therapeutic range that does not produce toxicity“, declared Areco.

According to the witness, the pharmacological treatment was supervised by clinic doctors in which Maradona was operated on less than a month before dying, as well as by interconsultants from the private medical company Swiss Medicalto which the clinic belongs.

“Everyone agreed that the treatment was appropriate,” insisted Areco, who to carry out his analysis accessed Maradona’s complete file and medical history at Swiss Medical.

Other psychiatrist experts testified in previous hearings that the effects of the medication required cardiological and laboratory controls.

But Areco assured this Thursday that “in normal psychiatric practice” these types of controls are not carried out, since the medication has “a wide margin of safety” and that, “when applied in therapeutic ranges, no complications are expected.”

In addition, he recalled that when Maradona was admitted to the clinic where he underwent surgery, he was “monitored with multiparametric controls” and presented “normal laboratory values.” “That’s why is withdrawn without cardiac medication”, he highlighted, alluding to the idol’s departure from the medical center in mid-November 2020 to continue his recovery under home treatment, during which he died two weeks later.

Areco stressed that “Cosachov’s concern was psychiatric treatment and pharmacological treatment” and that clinical treatment was carried out by Swiss Medical, which provided home treatment services.

“There was a team of professionals and nurses coordinated by a doctor from the prepaid medicine company and who They communicated through a chat. We inferred it from reading that chat and from the company’s clinical history,” he explained, regarding the conditions of that treatment.
