The Tigre Challenger, which will open the year in Argentina, already has a list
A new tennis season begins. Once again in Argentina since January there will be Challenger Circuit action. This year, Tigre will be the city that will host the first tournament at this level.
It will be at the Hacoaj Nautical Club, from January 13 to 19. In the Northern Zone of Greater Buenos Aires, a few kilometers from the capital, the first event will be held in a tournament that will award 50 points to the champion. Qualifying will begin on Sunday, January 12.
It is worth remembering that four races have been held in Hacoaj Challenger tournaments, 2 in 2022 and another 2 in 2023. In the first, Santiago Rodríguez Taverna won his first title after beating Facundo Díaz Acosta in the final. In April of that year, Camilo Ugo Carabelli was consecrated and in January 2023 Juan Manuel Cerúndolo won two consecutive weeks.
This year there are several Argentines who will seek to continue the streak, with Roman Burruchaga (156°), 22 years old, at the head.
Behind him, on the seeded list, appear Challenger champions such as the Bolivian Murkel Dellien (183rd), Juan Pablo Ficovich (187th), Andrea Collarini (204th), the Peruvian Juan Pablo Varillas (209th), Emilio Nava (212°), from the United States, Facundo Mena (215°) and Nicolás Kicker (217°).
Another aspect to highlight within the list of players, as usually happens on the Challenger circuit played in South America, will be several promising tennis players, who are showing a high level already inserted in the circuit.
The main draw will have four in its ranks former junior world No. 1 in recent years: Daniel Vallejo (PAR, 233°), Gabriel Debru (FRA, 253°), Juan Carlos Prado (BOL, 288°) and Joel Schwaerzler (AUT, 330°).
Without a doubt, there will be a lot of activity, in addition to the ATP of Buenos Aires, since all this is added to the Challenger 125 in Rosario from February 2 to 9.
