The sincere reflection of Colapinto and his accidents: “One hurt me more than the other”
Franco Colapinto gave an interview with the media MotorSport and He was self-critical of what was the end of his 2024reflecting on the accidents which he starred in at Interlagos and in Las Vegas.
The Williams driver, who has not secured his seat to continue in Formula 1 in 2025, He confessed that his first mishaps were practically in this category. “I didn’t use to have them,” he said. “It’s part of the process. And I think I went through some times this year that were difficult.. I’ve been trying to max out the car. I look back and see moments, of course, where I could have done better, and I see moments where I did a very good job without knowing the car and maximizing the opportunity“he added.
On the other hand, Colapinto gave a breakdown of the two setbacks he had. “I think Brazil was very difficult, with a lot of rain. The cars were almost undriveable for everyone, and someone was going to crash. I see it as my first experience in the wet. My first experience on intermediate tires, everything was very new.”
Regarding the one in Las Vegas, the Argentine confessed that it is the one that hurts the most. “I was in control, and pushing the limit in qualifying, trying to put a Williams in Q3. Maybe we weren’t fast enough, but I was looking for it, and maybe it was too much. I was already doing a good job and I didn’t need to take those risks.so perhaps the risk management was not adequate. But it’s also in my nature to try to maximize every moment I get in the car.. “And I think that’s what I was looking for, trying to get the car into Q3, and it didn’t work,” he explained.
Finally, Colapinto took stock of what was his dizzying 2024 since his arrival in F1and its conclusion was positive. “It’s part of the process, part of the experience, and I think I’m very happy with what I did in these nine races. The big picture is really good when you look at it. It’s a dream come true from the beginning“.
