The owner of United creates controversy again with immigration

The British millionaire Jim Ratcliffeco-owner of Manchester United and who has been a tax resident in Monaco since 2020, regretted this Saturday that the British, unlike the Americans, do not applaud great fortunes and “wealth creators.”

In an interview with the BBC that has generated controversy, Ratcliffe, who in the past has already gotten into other ‘puddles’ such as when he commented that his country was “colonized by immigrants”has lamented that the British are envious of great fortunes.

“In America they applaud people who create wealth. Unfortunately, there is a bit of wealth envy in the UK at the moment,” said Ratcliffe, whose fortune is estimated at 15 billion pounds (17.5 billion euros).

Ratcliffe went further and said his country was in decline. “We had the largest empire in the world. We were a great people, we won two world wars. We were a good people, honest people. But unfortunately, right now I think the country is in free fall,” he reflected.

Now, according to Ratcliffe, the country does not know how to respond to its most acute problems: “There is no one tough enough to face the immigration problem. There is no one tough enough to face the subsidy problem. But someone is going to have to do it,” considered the owner of the INEOS chemical company, one of the most important in the world.

Ratcliffe’s words have angered the Manchester Muslim Fans Club, who issued a statement criticizing them: “Our players, workers, stewards, security teams and fans come from different countries, cultures, races, religions and origins. Manchester United would not be what it is without them. United does not emotionally belong to investment funds, shareholders or millionaires.”
