The Lions began the year with the coaching staff led by Lucas Martín Rey. The Olympic champion who began his cycle at the end of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, is already working with the team in his first preseason with him in charge. Within the planning, the Argentine team will play a series of friendlies in Chile against Los Diablos between January 27 and February 2. As a result, the coach chose 40 Lions to work with during the year, made a cut for the tour and announced the list of 23 players who will travel.

Regarding the first official call, Rey will take one less player (24 players traveled to the Pro League and 23 will go) and there will be seven new names. There will be the return of Thomas Santiago to the albiceleste arch. They will have their first minutes with Argentina in the Lucas Rey era: Gonzalo Yanello, Nicolás Cicileo, Matteo Fernández, Facundo Sarto, Joaquín Toscani and Ignacio Nardolillo. Only Yanello never played with the South American country’s shirt, the rest will have their return.

Furthermore, among the new features that stand out the most in the squad, Agustín Bugallo announced that he will take a break from his international career with Los Leones after eight years. The Miter midfielder, originally from San Juan, did not start the preseason with the squad.

The knights will have the challenge of facing two great powers from February 19 to 24 in the Pro Leaguesuch as Belgium and Australia, to continue oiling the first stretch of 2025 that will lead to the greatest challenge of the year: the Copa América in Montevideo, Uruguay.
