The Lionesses added in their debut in the 2024-25 Pro League
The Lionesses beat Germany on penalties, after tying 2-2 in regulation time, on their return to the competition after a little more than four months. Precisely Sofía Cairó’s shoot-out – which meant another Olympic medal for Argentina – was the last moment of official match time until this date. The first Pro League window in a new season was the venue that hosted the victory of the Albicelestes against the Teutonas in Santiago del Estero.
With some new faces, and without their captain and standard bearer in Paris, Rochy Sánchez Moccia, Las Leonas came out with Agostina Alonso carrying the ribbon and the fortitude of being the team’s top representative on the field.
The match was not just anotherthe team led by Fernando Ferrara had not played a match in the country since the previous Pro League, together against Germany in Santiago del Estero, on February 19.
The first quarter Las Leonas went out in search of the balltrying to suffocate their rival through pressure and ball play, despite some impressions due to the desire of the beginning, Argentina was better and beyond the gap achieved by the albicelestes, the positive result was the way in which the young women they were able to develop. With the audacity that characterizes Lourdes Pisthon, the forward of Banco Nación piled people into the area, attended Mery Larsen (8′) and the native of Monte Hermoso scored his first goal in his debut in the Major.
During the second fifteen minutes the actions were divided, the Europeans took center stage and grew on the field with transitions and verticality, but without being effective. Argentina achieved fewer approximations, despite this, by Majo Granattomanaged to break the Teutote defense and test the quality of the goal post defended by Kubalski.
The complement began with a splash of cold water for Las Leonasin an isolated play on the left by Cristina Cosentino, a ball was leaked to no destination that managed to connect Lynn Krings at the far post and thus achieved equality (38′).
The last quarter Las Leonas came out to win the gameWith play and friction, the albicelestes took a step forward and found spaces where they previously ran into walls. The young Zoe Díaz broke the German wall with a dribble, unloaded for Granatto who opened for Trinchinetti and the bird took his vision to fly to – with a back pass – enable Jankunas who changed for a goal. The intensity did not diminish, Argentina continued to insist to expand the score. Lourdes Pisthon – an outstanding meeting – had hers. After a short corner in his favor, it was left to the reverse and made the German goalkeeper shine. Not everything ended there, in a lack of concentration at the end, the ball remained in Cosentino’s area and ended inside his goal after the management of Sara Strauss (58′).
