The historical record of URBA: Which clubs have won the title and who is the most successful?
He October 24 and 25will begin semi-finals of the URBA Top 12 Macro Cupand since Scruma review of all the clubs that managed to become champions of the maximum rugby tournament in Buenos Aires throughout history. All rugby, on Disney+ Premium Plan.
The first tournament in history took place in 1899, when Buenos Aires, Lomas, Belgrano and Atlético del Rosario inaugurated the River Plate Rugby Union (today called Unión Argentina de Rugby) and the first rugby competition was organized in Argentina, which continued under the command and organization of the UAR until 1995. However, in December of this year, an institutional and regional restructuring took place that led to the creation of URBA, which became the organizer of the tournament since 1996 and from 1998 introduced the playoff format.
It should be remembered that Lomas was the first champion of the Buenos Aires tournament, obtaining the title in 1899, and La Plata won the 1995 championship, the only one in its history, being the last under the command of the UAR. From its beginning until the Buenos Aires Rugby Union stopped being the organizer, the tournament was not played twice: 1916 and 1919. Furthermore, in ten of its editions there was a shared champion, that is, two clubs won the title.
With the URBA as the regulatory entity, in 1996 Atlético del Rosario and Hindú were jointly crowned, while the SIC won the last regular tournament, in 1997, before the playoffs were implemented. With the semi-final format, Don Torcuato’s team was the first to win in 1998.
