The Austrian Post issues a block of two stamps dedicated to David Alaba

Two images of the Austrian international David Alabaformer Real Madrid player, will appear on two postage stamps that will go on sale in Austria starting tomorrow, Monday, as reported this Sunday by the postal service of the Alpine republic (Österreichische Post). In a statement, the state entity announced that with these stamps it will inaugurate, one day after the World Cup final, which will be played this Sunday by the teams of Spain and Argentina, a new philatelic series titled ‘Sports’.

“With David Alaba, the Austrian postal service dedicates for the first time its own stamp to one of the country’s most internationally successful footballers,” highlighted the state company. The starting signal for the new series is thus given by “a personality who has been marking Austrian football at the highest level for many years,” he added.

For his part, Alaba declared in the note that he considers it “a great privilege” and a “truly enormous honor” to have his own label, for which he assured that he will reserve “a very special place” in his house. “With this seal we not only honor an exceptional athlete, but also a model to follow far beyond football,” stressed Peter Umundum, deputy general director of the Post, after recalling that the 34-year-old Viennese defender “has left his mark on the biggest football stages in Europe.”

The block of two stamps, designed by Melanie Musegg, shows a background of green stripes and white lines in allusion to the structure of a football field. The left side features a portrait of Alaba, while the right shows him in full game action wearing the national team kit.

The first stamp, with a nominal value of 3.5 euros, is intended for the registered mail service, while the second has a value of 1 euro for standard national shipments. Both will go on sale this Monday with a total circulation of 160,000 units.
