Steph Curry: Warriors shouldn’t make a “desperate” move

Stephen Curry said that while he wants the Warriors to improve, he doesn’t want the team to make a “desperate” move that would jeopardize the future.
TORONTO — With three weeks left before the trade deadline, Golden State’s star point guard, Stephen Curry wants to see the Warriors improve, but not at the cost of making a “desperate” move that would “deplete the future” of the franchise.
Warriors fell below .500 for the first time all season with a 104-101 loss to the Toronto Raptors at Scotiabank Arena on Monday. Since a 12-3 start, the Warriors have lost 17 of 24 games and now have a 19-20 record.
Even so, Curry He doesn’t want to see panic. And he echoed a sentiment that general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr., coach Steve Kerr and star power forward Draymond Green They’ve been saying since training camp started in Hawaii: Warriors shouldn’t make hasty trade decisionsespecially if they have to give up young players or draft picks.
“Desperate trades or desperate moves that drain the future, they have a responsibility to allow or keep the franchise in a good space and in a good place when it comes to where we leave this when we’re done,” he said Curry. “It doesn’t mean you’re not trying to get better. It doesn’t mean you’re not active in any type of pursuit, if you have an opportunity where a trade makes sense or even summer free agency (a move) makes sense. You want to continue improving.
“No one wants to be stuck or be in a situation where you’re passing up opportunities. But it doesn’t mean you’re desperate to throw assets around just because you want to do something.”
The star player of the franchise said this in response to what Green told Yahoo Sports that he, Kerr and Curry agree that the team should not mortgage its future. and make a possible bad trade.
“Mike understands that we want to win,” he said Curry. “We want to be in that position where we’ve always said we want to be relevant in the championship chase. While we understand that we are getting older and further along in our careers and allowing some of the younger guys to flourish, it doesn’t mean we’re getting desperate.” .
Kerr, Dunleavy, Curry and Green have been preaching patience since camp and wanting to see what this template can do. But that patience is being tested almost every night. The latest painful loss comes to a Raptors team that now has a 9-31 record.
Curry has been frustrated at times this season. He acknowledged that the team was “halfway there” with its average play at the beginning of this losing streak. Curry, Green and Kerr have tried a variety of strategies to get out of the slump.from Curry and Green talking to players to Kerr starting with 22 different lineups this season.
