Spain warms up its engines in Chile in search of a pass to the final phase of the Davis Cup

After the US Open, attention in the tennis world focuses this week on the Davis Cupwhich will decide in the coming days the seven teams that will accompany Italy in the final phase of the tournament.

Spain will play for the ticket this weekend in Santiago de Chile, and will do so with a team made up of Rafa Jódar, Daniel Mérida, Jaume Munar, Martín Landaluce and Pedro Martínez. All of them, except Martínez who arrives on Tuesday, are already in Chilean soil to acclimatize to the conditions of the Central Anita Lizana track at the National Stadium Park, under the orders of the captain. David Ferrer.

“It has been a day of adaptation for the players because here in Santiago there is a time change, jetlag, change in altitude… and tomorrow we will try to be more intense. The sensations have been good, the track is quite well maintained and we have had all the facilities of the organization,” said the national coach after the first day of work.

As captain I like that there are young players who are growing, both personally and tennis-wise.and more so with these players who have had a great year. We are talking about Rafa Jódar, who is already Top-10 in the Race, or Dani Mérida who is also winning many matches and is a player to stand out because he has been improving his tennis every year,” said Ferrer about the youth of the Spanish team.

“We come to compete and give our all. I trust my team a lot because they are very good players who have competed in big events. and in pressure situations. Obviously some are going to make their Davis Cup debut with the public against them and that is going to change their perspective a little, but they are very competitive” concluded the coach.

The draw for the pairings against the Chilean team, formed by Alejandro Tabilo (28), Cristian Garín (133), Marcelo Tomás Barrios (139) and Matías Soto (237)will take place this Thursday and the matches will be played on Saturday starting at 6:00 p.m. in Spain, and on Sunday starting at 5:00 p.m.
