Sinner broke the silence after withdrawing from the Davis Cup: "It was a difficult decision"

The news of the day regarding the Davis Cup Final 8 has to do with the confirmed absence of Jannik Sinner (2nd in the world ranking). The Italian will not be part of his country’s squad to seek the third consecutive title for Filippo Volandri’s team (he was part of both consecrations).

After hearing the news, Sinner, champion of the Australian Open and Wimbledon this season, spoke in Vienna, where he arrived to play the ATP 500, and explained his withdrawal: “Dropping out of the Davis Cup was a difficult decision, but we won it in 2023 and 2024, and this time my team and I made the right decision. After Turin (NdeR: ATP Finals), my goal is to prepare for the Australian Open, and an extra week of work is a burden.”

It should be remembered that he recently had to sit out during the third set of the third round of the Shanghai Masters 1000, against Tallon Griekspoor, due to suffering severe cramps.

Upon his arrival in Austria, and after winning the Six Kings Slam, the former world number 1 declared: “I have a lot of energy, I am physically well. “I feel ready to get back on the court and I hope that, together with the public, we have a good week.”

On the other hand, who also spoke was Volandri, the captain of Italy: “Sinner has not confirmed his availability for 2025. The Davis Cup is, and always will be, his home, and I am sure that Jannik will return to the team soon. In the meantime, I can count on a group willing to fight and give everything for the blue shirt.”

The competition will take place from November 18 to 23, at the Bologna Fiere, on a hard indoor surface. For the quarterfinals, Italy, without its greatest emblem and figure, will be seen with Austria.
