Serbia receives a harsh sanction from UEFA
Serbia will play its next home game behind closed doors (November 13 against Germany) and its federation has been fined 50,000 euros after fans engaged in racist and discriminatory behavior in Nations League matches against Greece (September 24) and Netherlands (three days later), as reported by UEFA on Friday.
The UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body also fined the Serbian federation 22,500 euros for “transmit inappropriate messages for a sporting event”, with 2,000 euros for the use of pyrotechnic material and with 15,000 euros for the invasion of the playing field during the two matches, both lost by Serbia 1-2.
In another case related to Serbia’s 2-1 defeat to the Netherlands on October 4, UEFA fined the Balkan country’s federation 20,000 euros and imposed a ban on selling tickets to its fans for an away match – a sanction suspended for two years – due to racist and discriminatory behaviour.
Serbia received an additional fine of 20,000 euros for transmitting a message inappropriate for a sporting event during the match. The selection of Veljko Paunovic They are bottom of group A2 of the Nations League after losing their first four games.
