Ricky Rubio, euphoric on social media after the Super Cup celebration: “What a blast!”
He Asisa Joventut celebrated, yesterday afternoon and in style, the title of the Endesa Super Cup conquered last Sunday after winning ‘at home’, the Olímpic de Badalona, Barça by a clear 101-87.
The Plaza de la Vila Badalona was too small to accommodate the several hundred, if not thousands, of Penya fans who attended the party organized by the club and the city authorities to celebrate the green-black team’s first title in 18 years. The last one dated from 2008.
A few minutes after seven in the afternoon, the staff of the Badalona team was received by the mayor at the town hall to receive the city’s tribute on this occasion with general expressions of gratitude and joy.
Before exiting to the balcony, the Council Plenary Hall welcomed the initial tribute with interventions from the mayor, the club president, coach and some players.
Then all the members of the team spoke before the fans and the confetti, the entity’s anthem and the photos served to close the event between promises to go for more, and the wish that this illusion infects the little ones to experience the Penya and basketball.
Almost 48 hours after winning the title, the players are still in a cloud. And the clearest example is that of Ricky Rubio.
A native of Masnou, he trained in the Joventut youth academy, with whom he debuted, with only 14 years old and with the help of Aíto García Reneses, in the ACB League.
After a long career away from Badalona (in Barça and, mainly, in the NBA), Rubio returned to Penya last season, with the intention of recover your enthusiasm and continue having fun playing basketball at the highest level.
This summer he was contemplating retirement, but, finally, he decided to continue and the reward came soon, winning the first state title at stake in 2026/27.
As Ricky himself highlighted after the final, “I was more nervous than before the (2019) World Cup final” and he wanted, from the moment the match ended, to enjoy every minute, every moment to keep it in his memory. From the Olímpic to Plaça de la Vila.
And this ‘high’ continues to last today. And proof of this is the comment he made this morning on social networks.
The journalist Marc Mundet He has published a post on his account in which he said “It’s very cool to see Badalona like this”, along with some photos from yesterday’s celebration.
A few minutes later, he himself Ricky He responded with “…don’t even mention it, Marc. What a great idea!”
A sincere and spontaneous response which perfectly sums up the feeling of the fans and players of the Joventuthungry to be able to celebrate a title, with the ‘extra’ of having achieved it in Badalona, after practically two decades of drought. Let the party continue.
