Novak Djokovic confirmed that he is not thinking about retiring soon: “There are more reasons why I continue playing”

With 38 years behind him, sometimes it is inevitable to think about when his “retirement” will be. Novak Djokovic. However, the Serbian, who has competed since the 2003 season at a professional level, confirmed that he does not plan to retire soon in addition to giving details of his current role on the ATP circuit.

In dialogue with the Greek news agency SDNA, the 24-time Grand Slam tournament winner expressed: “Many thought that after the Olympic Games, after winning the gold medal, I would end my career. However, I don’t play tennis just for the results. Obviously, the results are an important part of my motivation, but I also play because I really enjoy the competition. I enjoy the process and what tennis brings to me personally, to my family, but also what I bring to tennis as an active professional player.”

Djokovic He is aware of what both he and his name mean to the world of tennis and sport, where he wants to go further by becoming a kind of ambassador: “I know that as long as I play, the world of tennis will continue to watch over me. I know it and I have a responsibility, but I don’t care; in fact, I enjoy it. I like to contribute to the well-being, popularity and development of our sport. There are also other reasons, more personal and delicate, in addition to others related to the professional field.”

Finally, the Balkan man who will turn 39 on May 22 closed the interview by chasing away the ghosts of early retirement: “There are several reasons that drive me to continue competing. It’s not just about the successes. When you achieve your goals with an Olympic gold medal, yes, it is a little strange to go back to tournaments and start from scratch. However, at the same time, it is also a source of inspiration, because you feel that you still have the motivation and the desire to achieve more.”
