Lorenzo Musetti was the last player to qualify for the ATP Finals 2025disputed in their native country: Turin, Italy. Paradoxically, he achieved it after losing the final in Athens to Novak Djokovic. Although he only needed to win to get his ticket, the Serbian confirmed his withdrawal from the competition, which gave the Italian a ticket.

In his first match in the Jimmy Connors Group, Musetti could not display his best version and was clearly surpassed by Taylor Fritz, who took the match after sets of 6-3 and 6-4. After this result, the current world number 9 spoke at a press conference and told his feelings.

“First of all, I have to say that Fritz played really well. Congratulations to him. I think he had a great game. Considering the conditions and his game, he is in an excellent moment of form. For my part, I served pretty well. Then I had some situations, maybe not bad luck, but some where I could have increased my advantage. Immediately after, they broke my serve. “That probably marked a turning point in the match, and particularly in the first set,” he began by stating.

Later, he was asked if he suffered from stress due to the fight for qualification: “It’s something I thought about during the match and, of course, taking into account that I was playing right after the final in Athens. I knew I couldn’t be 100%, especially physically, because mentally I’m very happy to be here.. I am very happy and super proud of myself, of my team, of what we have achieved. In a way, I am also super proud because I tried to fight with what I had. I have to say that I felt like Taylor was better than me. “If we analyze the match, it was a break, a break in two sets.”

On the second date, in search of the lift and to continue with chances of overcoming the Round Robinwill face the Australian Alex De Minaur. Jannik Sinner, defending champion, is the other player completing the group.
