Moncho Fernández: “Fontajau gives us strength”

The FIATC coach Girona, Moncho Fernandezhas been “very happy” for this Saturday’s victory against Surne Bilbao (92-87) and celebrated that his team has taken “the good escape” in a match that could go either way.

“Maybe we haven’t played a fantastic game because we have had stupid losses and the odd mistake, but we have been very good in our effort, our resilience and our concentration because Bilbao’s game demands all of this,” he noted.

The Galician coach highlighted that “beating a team that plays so, so well is very, very complicated because they are a rival that always punishes mistakes and knows very well what they play and what they do.”

Moncho has stated that Fontajau gives “strength” to his players, after the seventh victory in seven home games, and has highlighted the efforts of Aljaz Kunc and Jassel Perez for his contribution despite his discomfort and the debut of Isaac Vázquez after his long injury.

He has also claimed the party of base Mac McClung (18): “Begin to know the competition and the rules of this basketball. Adaptation is not a pill. It is a new sport, totally different.”
