Oscar Piastri has six wins in the 2025 season of F1 and approaches to break McLaren’s historical marks.

When Zak Brown He commented that just as F1 enjoyed the glorious times of Ayrton Senna, Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamiltonthe sport was about to see the beginning of the “era of Lando Norris”, But the CEO of the powerful group McLaren He did not tell the “second” pilot of his team: Oscar Piastri.

Brown opted his marbles to Lando and left him engraved in the Drive To Survive series. Norris could (why not?) Be the 2025 champion of Formula 1, but right now who is closer to achieving it and is even on the way to break Senna brands and Mika Hakkinen In McLaren he is the 24 -year -old Australian, who last Sunday won the Belgium Grand Prix.

Piastri chases Senna and Hakkinen

Piastri has six triumphs in 2025, the last time a McLaren driver had achieved, at least half a dozen boxes of paintings in the same calendar had been Kimi Raiikkonen in 2005, who won seven and was not even champion.

The brand of more victories for the pilots of Woking’s house is shared by the Brazilian Senna, who won eight great prize in 1988 in that epic battle with Prost, who took seven wins, with which McLaren monopolized 15 of 16 dates.

But ‘Magic’ Senna is not the only one with eight wins in a season for McLaren, so did the ‘flying Finn’ Hakkinen in 1998, to keep the world title about Schumacher.

Prost had already accumulated seven victories in 1984, but the title was only by half a point for Niki Laudahis coequipero who obtained five pictures.

That fateful career in Monaco, where Alain demanded that he stop because the rain was too much, it was difficult for him to take only half of the points and there the championship lost.

Senna also won seven GP’s in 1991, James Hunt Six in 1976 and Lewis Hamilton, five in 2008. All as McLaren pilots.

Even so, the absolute record will continue in the hands of Verstappen

The brand of the entire F1 is Max Verstappen With 19 victories for Red Bull In 2023 and he has second place with 15 in 2022, followed by the 13th of Schumacher and Vettel in 2004 and 2013, respectively.

With a calendar of 24 races and 11 for disputing, in addition to the power of the MLC39 of McLaren it is difficult to think that Piastri can only win two of the remaining great awards. With three more it would be the new maximum winner of the Papaya team in a season.

Piastri has 31 consecutive GP’s within the points

Piastri, current leader of the World Championship Position Table with 266 points, for 250 of Norris, currently has 31 large consecutive awards within the points, a streak that matches the fourth best of all time of Max Verstappen between the 2024 Japan GP and the Canada GP of 2025. The record is 48 of Hamilton de Silverstone 2018 Bahrain 2020.

Proof, regularity, execution and mental strength, are the characteristics that differentiate Pastri from his coequipero Norris, who is evidently his only obstacle to becoming the third Australian world champion in history.

Jack Brabham (Tricampeón with Cooper and his own team, 1959, 1960 and 1966) and Alan Jones (Williams, 1980) are the Australians who have crowned in F1 and other famous such as Mark Webber and Daniel Ricciardo They were close to doing so.

Without advancing eve, Piastri seems the best McLaren option to be a champion, in addition, the interesting thing is that the team has not given orders to its pilots. He drives strong, but loyal. The results have been organic and determined on the track, although there are those who may think that strategies can favor one or the other.

Spa-Francorchamps could be the turning point of the season

The Belgium Grand Prix could be the race that exemplifies the situation in McLaren.

Papaya cars dominate by far, yes, but in an oversight, Max Verstappen can win a race. That happened in the Sprint, but that is the anomaly. The normal thing is that McLaren does 1-2.

On a return, in qualy conditions, Lando Norris is usually faster. The proportion in the 59 races they have shared as coequiperos, is in favor of Norris 42 against 17, although in 2025 it is 7-6 in favor of Pastri.

In Belgium, Norris had pole position, but that is where the differentiating element between these two flyers appears, since Piastri took advantage of the start to make a daring overflow that put it in front.

Then, Lando, with a better strategy, since he had hard tires and Oscar had media, made three specific mistakes when trying to reach Piastri. Mental errors at the time you have to execute.

11 races are missing, there are many, but the tendency is that when they face the 4 and 81 cars on the track, Piastri is usually better fought.

Surely, Zak Brown hastened to say that he would begin Norris’s era, more when a regulation change in F1 comes. The era of Verstappen does not yet end and if in 2025, as everything seems to indicate, an McLaren will be champion, that does not mean that it starts an era and much less that it is from Lando.
