Mayagüez eliminates Caguas and will play Final Series against San Juan in LBPRC

Indios defeat Criollos in the sixth game of the semifinal, and starting Friday they will face Senators in the Final Series to win five of nine possible games
CAGUAS, Puerto Rico — The Indios de Mayagüez blanked the Criollos de Caguas 3-0 on Tuesday night, to qualify for the Final Series of the Roberto Clemente Professional Baseball League (LBPRC).
The Indians had not set foot in a Final Series since the 2022-2023 season, when they won their nineteenth title in the LBPRC.
Now they will face the Senators of San Juan in the Final Series – to win five of nine possible games -, which will begin this Friday at the Isidoro “Cholo” García Stadium.
“This is the result of the effort of each of the players and the unity that the team has had. Everyone contributed to us getting here. “I am proud of the players and the work they have done throughout the season,” said Wilfredo “Coco” Cordero, manager of the Indians, a team that finished the regular season in first place in the tournament with a 24-16 record. and the semifinal series with a 4-2 record.
The Tribe featured a solid pitching performance from starter Ronnie Williams. The right-hander only allowed two hits in his six-inning outing; in which he struck out six and walked one. Williams earned his first postseason victory in his second appearance.
“You have to give credit to Ronny. Today was his day, we have to give him flowers. He did an excellent job and had a great game,” said Cordero, leader in the middle of the celebration.
The Indians scored their first run of the game – with their second hit – when Isán Díaz drove in Eddie Rosario, from second, with a single to right field. The Major League player had opened the round in the second inning with a single off the Criollos starter, Travis Lakins. He then reached second base on a groundout by import David MacKinnon.
Lakins retired the first two batters of the sixth inning, however, he was unable to do the same with Emmanuel Rivera. The Mayagüez native hit a double to the right field. That was the extent of Lakins’ performance, the right-hander was relieved by Jorge Benítez. Immediately afterwards, Anthony García hit a powerful double to make the score 2-0. Later, Mayagüez scored the third run with an infield hit by Danny Ortiz in the eighth inning.
The loss belonged to Lakins (0-2) after allowing two of the Indians’ three runs. In his second loss of the postseason, the right-hander also allowed three hits and struck out four batters.
