Mateo Guagliardi, a young man with big goals
Mateo Guagliardi, at 19 years old, spends his last steps in the 5th division, and his first in the Superior Squad. With 37 goals in total, 22 in the first part of the year and 15 in the Gold Cup, he is the top scorer for his team and the championship.
Being a forward, specifically number 9, he is always in the position to score goals, but he is also a short corner taker, which is where he believes most were scored. Mateo debuted in the First Division on October 16, 2022, against GEBA B, and his favorite goal was the first goal he scored in the First Division. “It was in a match against Martín Güemes, there were 10 seconds left and a teammate passed it to me from the baseline at the edge of the area, I received it right and turned it backhand. It was a treat for the soul to hear so many people in the stands shouting a goal of mine.”said the player.
The Banfield forward commented that his motivation to continue improving is to think about the future. “We are the future of the club, the next representatives in the Primera, that is what was instilled in me from a very young age, always aspiring to improve and be able to play in another category.” Furthermore, this year he is the bearer of the captain’s ribbon and with everything that entails. “What I do is try to enjoy the moment of playing, that’s why I train every week, waiting for Sunday. Enjoy knowing that soon I will be promoted to seniors and it will be a very big change”he added.
In addition to admiring the Primera players, Mateo is greatly inspired by his brother, with whom he shares the court, and his father. “Playing with my brother is an intractable connection, and more than anything I would like to thank my dad for introducing me to this sport that I love. I want him to play again to share the court with him and my brother, it would be a dream.”said.
To add another grain of sand to Mateo’s year, Banfield managed to return to the top category, securing a place in the 2025 Metropolitan A Tournament. “Being able to come back and experience it from inside the field is beautiful, seeing my friends, teammates, and family happy. “Banfield has always been a club that fights for promotions, we are going to prepare to do things well and maintain the category next year.”he finished.
