LIONS APALEAY GOES AWAY FROM STARS

The Leones del Esgido beat the Estrellas Orientales 10-6 at the Quisqueya Juan Marichal stadium, taking the greens three games away with six left to play in the Round Robin.

The Scarlets (8-4), who remain in second place, remain one game behind Licey (9-3). The Stars have a 5-7 record.

Esgido’s offense was unleashed in the first inning when Sócrates Brito walked Paolo Espino, advanced to second on a single by Junior Caminero to left field, and both scored on a double by Jean Segura to right field.

However, the biggest rally was in the second when Pedro Severino, Erik González and José Sirí hit consecutive hits to add one more. Espino was replaced by José M. Fernández, and González stole third and home, in two different plays, to score number four for the long-haired team.

The attack did not stop, and Brito connected unstoppable to the left field to place runners on first and second. A walk to Caminero loaded the bases and a wild pitch took Sirí to the plate. Another two turns came in after Zoilo Almonte missed the center.

Rafael Montero (1-0) took the victory in relief, striking out three. The defeat was for Espino (0-2) by allowing four runs.
