Norris was booed after winning the Mexican GP at the Hermanos Rodríguez

Lando Norris won the Mexico City Grand Prix from end to end. He showed total dominance in all aspects of the competition, however, that was not enough for the Mexican public.

Once the cars and drivers arrived at the GNP Stadium for the interviews and podium celebration, they barely introduced Lando Norris as the winner of the competition, he was loudly booed by the fans, in clear contrast to what happened with Max Verstappen third place, and Charles Leclercsecond.

“The truth is that I don’t know, to be honest. People have the right to do what they do,” said the Briton, now leader of the championship, when asked about the matter at a press conference.

“I don’t know why I can’t stop laughing when they boo me, I think it makes it more entertaining for me. So they can keep doing it if that’s what they want, I prefer to be encouraged, but I don’t know, who knows, the same thing happened in Monza and some other places, I’ll just concentrate on doing my thing,” added Norris, who won his first race in Mexico.

When he was introduced, the driver, despite the boos, was courteous: “This is incredible… it’s incredible. My first victory here in Mexico, a beautiful victory, especially here in the stadium. Thank you very much to all the fans.”

With the victory in Mexicohis 6th of the season and the 10th of his career – he is the fourth driver on the current grid F1 with 10 or more wins-, Lando Norris takes the lead in the drivers’ championship with one point ahead of Oscar Piastri, his teammate in McLaren.

After 15 races leading the championship, Piastri gives up the position to Norris. This equals the highest number of races with lead changes in the history of the F1 -happened in 2006 Alonso to Schumacher and in 1976 Niki Lauda to James Hunt. And it’s the first time Norris has led since Bahrainlast April.

“A pretty easy race for me, just what I was looking for. Good start, good start, good first lap and from there I was able to keep going.”

“I’m taking it one weekend at a time. I’m happy, I’m focused, focused, I ignore all this (noise) and I stay focused. It’s working, so I’m happy.”
