Knicks officially hire Mike Brown as a coach

He is already official: Mike Brown is the new Knicks chief coach.

New York – The New York Knicks hired the NBA year coach, Mike Brown on Monday, on Mondayafter having fired Tom Thibodeau.

“After an exhaustive search process, we are pleased to announce Mike Brown as the new New York Knicks coach,” said the Knicks president Leon Rose, in a statement. Mike has trained in the most important scenarios of our sport and brings great prestige to our organization.

“His experience leading the bank during the NBA finals, winning four titles as an assistant coach, and their ability to develop and train players will help us in our goal of bringing a championship to New York for our fans.”

The Knicks offered the position to Brown last week and announced on Monday that it would take over the team that arrived at the East Conference last season for the first time in 25 years.

In spite of this, they decided to say goodbye to Thibodeau and finally chose Brown, who did not take long to be out of work after being fired by the Sacramento Kings last season.

Brown had taken the Kings to the postseason in 2023, his first appearance since 2006, and was elected coach of the year. He also won the prize in Cleveland, where he guided the Cleveland Cavaliers to the NBA finals of 2007.

He was four times champion as Top Assistant at the Golden State Warriors and San Antonio Spurs. Under the direction of Steve Kerr and Gregg Popovich, he has trained a series of superstars over three decades in the NBA with the Warriors, Spurs, Cavaliers, Los Angeles Lakers and the Kings.

Brown has trained Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and Klay Thompson; Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker; LeBron James; Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol; and de’aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis.

He was fired by the Kings in December after a season of 13-18, despite having led the franchise to his first classification to the playoffs in 16 seasons in 2023, breaking the longest postseason drought in the history of the NBA, since the Kings had the best NBA attack.

Brown, who has a combined record of 454-304 as chief coach with the Cavaliers, the Lakers and the Kings, won his first prize to the NBA year coach in 2009 with Cleveland. He won the award again in 2023 with Sacramento.

The Knicks have not reached the finals of the NBA since 1999 and have not won an NBA title since 1973.
