The Spanish coach of the Brooklyn Nets, Jordi Fernandezwas this Monday “extremely excited” about the start of the new season of the NBA, the North American professional basketball league, and assured that competition for minutes will be one of the keys for a team that combines youth and experience.

During the media day of the Nets, Fernandez He highlighted the work done by his players during the summer and pointed out that the young people on the squad have gained strength and experience over recent seasons.

“We have the type of squad in which I feel that everyone can play. We have youth and experience,” said the former Canada coach, who avoided anticipating who will be part of the rotation.

The Spanish coach insisted that opportunities must be earned with performance and perseverance and explained that his responsibility will be to identify the players who are prepared to take them on.

“If you’re this good consistently, don’t worry, I’ll see,” he said before adding that his job is to challenge each player to continue to improve.

Fernandez He also defended that collective success should be above individual objectives: “If we focus on team success, everything else will be fine.”

The coach, whose contract and those of his entire coaching staff were renewed in April, also highlighted the importance of maintaining the continuity of the project and assured that the objective is to advance progressively.

“You want to improve by 1%. Not five, not ten, but small increments, always moving forward,” he said.

On the growing presence of European and international players in the NBA, Fernandez He rejected that the current style especially favors Europeans and considered that it reflects the globalization of the competition.

“We don’t see passports in our team. We see great players with the possibility of developing,” he said.
