Johansen wins again in the Volta a Portugal time trial

After having won the prologue, Johansenfrom the UAE Team Emirates, added another podium after covering the 17.4 kilometers between the towns of Anadia and Águeda in 21 minutes, 13 seconds and 548 hundredths.

He was followed by the Portuguese Tiago Antunes, from Efapel Cycling, and the Dutch Axel van der Tuuk, from Euskaltel-Euskadi, with +30 seconds and +35, respectively.

The winner of the last two editions of the Volta a Portugal, the Russian Artem Nychfinished fourth and could not take the lead from his Anicolor/Campicarn teammate, Alexis Guerin, who remains at the top of the classification thanks to his eighth place in the time trial.

It was also a positive stage for the Spaniard from Team Emirates Adrià Pericaswhich finished tenth and rose five places overall, where it occupies fifth position.

The Catalan cyclist is being one of the revelations of this Portuguese ‘Volta’ and remains clinging to the white jersey, that of youth.

His compatriot Txomin Juaristi, from Euskaltel-Euskadi, had less luck, who had to change bikes halfway through the route due to a puncture in the rear wheel, which caused him to fall to 28th place in the stage and from fifth to tenth in the general classification.

The Volta a Portugal will have a day of rest this Tuesday and will return on Wednesday with its sixth stage, a 132.6 kilometer route along the banks of the Douro River, between the towns of Santa Maria da Feira and Peso da Régua.
